Puss - Part VIIIThe soft click of the studio door seemed to echo loudly in the predawn house as Barrett pulled it open. He could hear soft breathing in the living room and padded towards it. Sinna lay on the couch, an afghan thrown over her legs. It surprised him to see her there; he scarcely remembered her opening the studio door and had begun to think he had imagined it. Even as he watched her, she stirred and opened her eyes. She smiled up at him sleepily and Puss poked her head out from under the afghan.
“Hi,” he smiled down at her.

Puss - Part VIIPuss was beside herself when she met Sinna at the door, mewling and pawing at the professor’s leg. The house was otherwise quiet, which Sinna found strange; Barrett usually had a radio or the television on when he was working; “controlled white noise” he would call it with a laugh. She removed her boots and coat, shooing the desperate cat out of the way and heading for the studio. Puss ran on ahead, passing the closed door and heading straight for the kitchen. She reappeared at the doorway with an annoyed meow when Sinna failed to follow her.

Puss - Part VIBarrett awoke with a start. There was a weight on his chest and he couldn’t move, couldn’t feel his right arm. Was this a stroke? A heart-attack? Had the Unseelie Court gotten into the house after all? His groggy brain struggled to make sense out of what was happening to his body. Something stirred along his right side, something large; there was a soft sigh that wasn’t his own and Barrett finally opened his eyes.

Shattered PeaceLate April. The daylight hours were already growing perceptively as the May Day celebrations drew near, which was good news to the people living within the rural Irish village. The news spun stories of ancient monsters which stalked the night, bloodthirsty beasts that longed for their destruction. A highly trained team had been dispatched to track and neutralize the threat, but mothers still called their children home as the sun began to dip below the western horizon; the monsters had been photographed at Tara, some said, and others insisted that they had been sighted near the village.

The human mind is a marvellous thing, with its ability to banish away all recollection of even the most intense pain. The characteristic buzzing brings it all flooding back in an instant.
Even worse than this burning penetration were the moments before. I can deal with the needle, I can deal with the pain; it’s waiting and uncertainty I can’t stomach. Makes me lose my nerve. Makes me sick. But now I can lean here. Now I can grit my teeth and make small talk while the image and my skin become one.

Good lord, it's been forever since I've posted anything on here!

Would probably help if I'd been doing any writing lately, which I haven't been. Writer's block sucks, especially when it's for an extended period of time.

Well, I shouldn't say I've had utter writer's block. I've been able to produce some drabble, just little one shot shorts, but that's in all honesty about all I've been able to do. Anything extended is just impossible, it seems; I can't keep up the concentration to take the image from my brain to the paper. I've got to get going, though. I've been working on Puss for far too long, for a story that I had had all plotted out, and I've got a request int he works that's just languishing from my lack of vision.

Me thinks I need to go do something to jump start my creativity again. Guh.

I spend most of my time stumbling around trying to find my way back into the wardrobe I'm sure that I fell out of in my early childhood.

I'm a writer, and I work primarily with fantasy because there's something wonderfully, yet complicatedly, fundamental about the desires the genre as a whole tends to express.

Maybe it's the key to finding that elusive wardrobe again.
